Summertime…..and the livin’s easy

It’s right around the corner…kids are almost out of school, 9:00 pm sunsets, and the sun.

No more complaining about too much rain, or it’s cold out, or the wind is killing your mph averages.

It is summer time.  Time to get out, time to ride your bike, time to air up your spouses bike tires so you can go ride together.  Time to buy your kid a new helmet since you haven’t done that in 3 years and they have grown.

So where are you going to ride?  Well, if you are sticking together as a family I would suggest some trails and places that accommodate all skill levels.  Rowlett Creek Trail is a fun mountain bike trail that a 5 year old can ride, a slower rider would enjoy, and you can always veer to the left and hit the more technical trails and meet your family back at the car.

Another way to get a friend or spouse on their bike even if it’s not their favorite hobby is to come out on Friday evening to the Friday Night Ride.  What’s it all about you ask???  Well it is a social ride, and the group stops 4 to 5 times throughout the ride to make sure no one is left behind.  So if your friend is doubting their endurance you can reassure them that it is fun, easy, and in the end they will feel great that they conquered White Rock Lake.  I personally think it is beautiful to watch the sunset as you are riding around White Rock Lake.  After your ride go grab dinner with some of the other people on the ride too!  Now you’ve gotten exercise and made a new friend.

Got kids?  If you little ones don’t need training wheels, but aren’t ready for 10 miles of WRL, then take them over to Audubon Park on Oates drive in Garland.  They have a paved travel for joggers & cyclists that gently curves through the woods passing a duck pond, Duck Creek, and a small water fall.  The hills have a mild incline, but your little ones will enjoy the scenery and feel great about their first ‘big’ bike ride.  After your ride there is a park for the kids.  You can also treat them with ice cream at Sonic on Oates when you finish your ride!

LBH is another mountain bike trail that I could recommend as easier ride for taking adult  friends and family.

The point is that you love Cycling.  Show your friends & family that they can enjoy it too.  Empower them by starting their biking experience off in a positive way.  Where they can feel confident and comfortable before they move up to the next level.

We’ll see you out there!
